Sizing and Shopping for Maternity Swimwear at Lime Ricki
Bringing a little bundle of the joy into the world is so exciting, and with every change in your body you know your little one is growing and becoming. But there are some changes that can be hard to deal with, like having to buy new clothes and facing swimsuit season.
Not to worry, though, because it is possible to look cute and be comfortable in a swimsuit when you’re pregnant! Here are all of my tips for wearing your swimsuit with your baby bump.
1. Go up one size
At Lime Ricki, our suits become maternity swimsuits simply by ordering a size up from what you would normally wear. The suit will fit snugly and comfortably over your bump, ensuring you don’t have to be worried about it sliding up while you’re laying out.
2. Order a suit with ruching or shirring
The gathers in the fabric will help slim you and enable the suit to fit you even better. Our wrap tankinis and one pieces have shirring on the sides to create a comfortable and tailor-made garment that will look great on your body.
3. Try out a peplum
Peplums are wildly popular for maternity-wear, and that’s because they’re feminine and flattering! We have three different peplum styles this year and any one of them will work with a baby bump. Plus, after delivery, you can keep wearing it with your post-baby body and it will cover the tummy perfectly!
4. Get a suit with extra chest support
Normally, you may not need to consider whether your swimsuit has underwire or not, but if your breasts tend to expand and become heavy during pregnancy, you might need a little more structure. Combine that with a halter style suit, and you’ll have all the support you need.
5. Pair with high waist bottoms
High waist bottoms will fit snugly over your growing belly and give you all the coverage and support you could need. We make them in so many different colors and prints, you’re sure to find something you like. These are great for after-baby too!
6. Know your body
Only you can truly know what kind of suit will work best for your body – do you need more support, bigger or smaller bottoms, or even a new suit at all? If it’s your second or third pregnancy, this will be an easier job, but if it’s your first, try a few suits until you find one that really works. We make returns and exchanges easy, so if you want to order a few different swimsuits or sizes, you can!
7. Don’t be afraid to wear a swimsuit when you’re pregnant
With the miracle of life and carrying a baby brings a lot of changes with your body, but don’t let those things stop you from spending time at the pool. Build yourself up for the wonder that you are, and don’t let negative criticisms of yourself and the way your body temporarily looks destroy your happiness. As Bonnie from Life of Bon said, “I have to turn that part of my brain off because my body made a baby and continues to feed that baby and so I can’t be the least bit ashamed of something as stupid as my milky white legs. My body doesn’t deserve that kind of criticism from me.”
